F.A.Q. about the FREE World History class

(To see the FAQ about the live lecture class, please contact us.)

Why is this history class free? Is it because the quality is poor?
The material offered in the free course is identical to the paid version which was offered for five years through accredited institutions and officially recognized by the CollegeBoard as AP World History. The free course does not include access to the interactive classroom where students discuss content and work collaboratively.

Can a student be successful with the free course without instructor support?
Yes, but most need a committed parent who monitors the suggested course of study and looks at how the student is doing on the weekly quizzes (which are automatically scored).

What about essay writing? How can a parent help with that?
Extensive and specific guidelines are given to produce high quality essays which meet college standards. Parents can use the scoring rubrics to evaluate essays and give constructive feedback.

After I get a password, then what?
After a successful Survey Application and Quiz you will receive a password to a secure website address. Students may begin their world history tour in September or January. Login and read the “Why for Week 1”. It will explain how to access the weekly readings, quizzes, and discussion forums. Introduce yourself to your peers and try out the assignments.

Can you give me an idea of what the assignments are like?
Sure. Assignments include many creative options to essay writing. Here is an example of a student created song, PowerPoint, Flash animation, and even an audio reader’s theater that was produced by students solely via the Internet. Course material relies on a biblical perspective.

Ok really, why is this free? What is the catch?
Really, it’s free. However, participants are welcome, but not expected, to donate to the ministry of providing world history in Biblical perspective. Most donations consist of student generated material that is then teacher revised and anonymously published on another website which contains revenue generating advertising.

How can I donate financially to this ministry?
Wait until the student is into the second semester of the course before deciding to donate financially. By that time the student will have either dropped out, or this course will have become one of the student’s best academic experiences. A tax deductible donation may be made through CCB to evangelical missionaries serving in Europe, or a regular (nondeductible) donation may be made directly to this ministry through PayPal. Wait and see. Contact Guide{at}historytour.net for specifics.
